1 – Introduction

This User Guide provides an overview of the geospatial data service.  Instructions are provided on how to log in and out of your account, together with an overview of the four website pages, their purpose, and how to navigate between them.

2 – Accessing the website

To access the Geospatial Data website, click on the link below or enter the URL into your web browser address bar:

http://jisc.geostore.com/jisc

Your browser will then display the landing page of the website:

3 – Overview of website pages

The Jisc Geospatial Platform website has been designed to be as simple and easy to use as possible.  There are just four different pages to the website:

The Home page presents the initial welcome screen to visitors, containing a summary of the service available.  It also provides a news feed giving updates of any recent website developments.

The Discover page allows you to browse through the Data Collections and data products available through the service.  See the Discover Page User Guide for more detailed information.

The Resources page provides additional help and information including Data Guides, User Guides, and FAQ’s.  See the Resources Page User Guide for more detailed information.

The Map page contains a map viewer which you can use to visualise, annotate, analyse, print, and order the data products.

See the Map Page User Guide for more detailed information.

All pages of the website feature the main menu – this is the dark blue banner running across the top of the webpage:

The main menu allows you to navigate between the four main site pages:

Home Click the ‘Geospatial data’ text (on the left hand side of the main menu) to browse to the Home page
Discover Click the ‘Discover’ icon (leftmost of the three in the centre of the main menu) to browse to the Discover page
Resources Click the ‘Resources’ icon (middle of the three in the centre of the main menu) to browse to the Resources page
Map Click the ‘Map’ icon (rightmost of the three in the centre of the main menu) to browse to the Map page

Some pages feature additional side menus providing additional functionality relevant to that page or function only.  These can appear on either the left hand or right hand sides of the screen, and are discussed further in the relevant User Guides as needed.  The main menu also features some additional icons on the right hand side (Help/Basket/Account) and these are also discussed in the relevant User Guides.

It is important to note that the main menu is never replaced by a side menu or any other content – the main menu is always present and always allows for navigation between the four website pages.  Side menus are only used for additional functionality as needed, which allows the main site interface to be as simple to use as possible.
