1 – Introduction

This User Guide provides an overview of the functionality available within the map viewer’s Hamburger Menu, allowing you to order to interact with data layers and configure the map viewer.

The Hamburger Menu is a multi-purpose menu interface which offers three main types of functionality:

  • The Catalogue tab provides access to the Data Catalogue to browse, add, view, and order data products
  • The Map Tools tab contains a suite of tools to draw, measure, and print maps – and define spatial order areas

  • The Projects tab allows you to create, edit, delete, and share projects with other geospatial data service users

More detailed information is provided for each of these three tabs in their own User Guides – please see the links provided below.

2 – Accessing the Hamburger Menu

In order to open the Hamburger Menu, you must first be viewing the Map Page of the Geospatial data website.  If you are currently viewing a different page of the website, click on the ‘Map’ icon in the top menu banner to view the Map Page:

You can learn more about the general functionality available in the Map Page by reading the Map Page User Guide.

Once you are viewing the Map Page of the website, you can open the Hamburger Menu by clicking on the ‘hamburger’ icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner of the map viewer:

Once clicked, the Hamburger Menu interface opens on the left hand side of the screen, with the default Catalogue tab interface displayed:

The Hamburger Menu can be closed by clicking on the ‘x’ icon in the top right corner of the menu (above the three tabs). The Hamburger Menu interface closes and returns to the original hamburger icon in the map viewer.

3 – Overview of Hamburger Menu tabs

In order to keep the map viewer interface as simple and uncluttered as possible, the Hamburger Menu presents a wide variety of functionality within a single menu tool. The functionality is split into three groups which are represented in the Menu interface by three tabs in the right hand side of the menu:

Clicking on each tab will change the Hamburger Menu interface to display the relevant icons for the function selected. Note that the tab bar itself is always present in the right hand side of the Menu, allowing you to always change to a different tab when needed.

Catalogue Menu

Click on the ‘Catalogue’ tab to open the Catalogue Menu (selected by default).

The Catalogue Menu is used to configure which data products are visible in the map viewer.

It allows you to:

  • browse through lists of data products
  • read summary information

  • zoom to the layer extent

Please see the Catalogue Menu User Guide for more detailed descriptions of this functionality.

Map Tools Menu

Click on the ‘Map Tools’ tab to open the Map Tools Menu.

The Map Tools Menu provides a range of digitising tools to draw features in the map viewer.

It allows you to:

  • draw objects to spatially define order areas
  • make linear and area measurements on the map

Please see the Map Tools Menu User Guide to learn more about how to use these tools.

Projects Menu

Click on the ‘Projects’ tab to open the Projects Menu.

The Projects Menu allows you to create projects (map views with preconfigured data layers and symbologies).

It allows you to:

  • create, edit, and delete projects
  • share these projects with other users

Please see the Projects Menu User Guide to learn more about how to create and share projects.
